Rancho Santa Fe, California----Bill Cosby, a much-loved comedian and one of the finest positive fatherly role models on television, will bring his legendary and timeless humor to The Grand Del Mar, Saturday February 27 for the Rancho Santa Fe Unit of Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary 14th annual fundraiser: Stand Up for Rady Children’s Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, an Evening With Bill Cosby. Returning 2009 gala chair Cindy Leonard said, “Many of our supporters will have fond memories of growing up listening to his records or watching him on television. His comedy focuses on family and the humor of everyday situations. People really respond to that.” Few entertainers have achieved the legendary status that Cosby enjoys. During a career spanning five decades in print, film, television and live performances, Cosby won nine Emmy and eight Grammy Awards. His popular recordings earned him eight Gold and five Platinum records. A blend of music and humor, his animated series “Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids” (1972 – 1984), was largely based on Cosby’s experience growing up in urban Philadelphia. His 1986 number one bestseller “Fatherhood” celebrated the trials and tribulations of raising five children. In 2002 President George W. Bush awarded Cosby the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, for using his gift of humor to heal wounds and build bridges. In October 2009 Cosby received our nation’s top humor prize: the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The event will begin at 5:30 PM with a silent auction during which guests will enjoy cocktails and an informal dinner atmosphere with a variety of food station selections to suit all tastes. Guests will then move to theater-style seating for the live auction followed by a one-hour performance by Bill Cosby. The fundraiser will conclude with dessert and dancing until midnight. Dress is cocktail attire. Proceeds will benefit Rady Children’s Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
